Armila is located about 20 minutes by lancha from Puerto Obaldía, or an hour and a half by foot (for good walkers). This community opened to tourism in 2007, an initiative of Ignacio "Nacho" Crespo, a Guna who has the soul of a great traveler since he went to study in cold Russia in his youth! The community of Armila is different from the rest of the San Blas, it is not an island; the closest one, Caledonia, is 45 minutes away by boat. Here the scenery is spectacular for the pristine mountain behind, a wild beach (dangerous swimming), ecological trails to a viewpoint with an unforgettable view, rowing a dugout canoe up a river where you can see crocodiles, colorful birds and playful monkeys. The practice of traditional dance is a real passion here, and an extraordinary show awaits you. Finally, the beach of Armila is famous for welcoming, from February to June, the largest marine turtles in the world. A festival is organized in May to raise awareness among the population, tourists and the rest of the country about the importance of protecting these endangered species that travel around the world before returning to lay their eggs where they were born. Be prepared to use your legs during the months of December, January, February, March, July and August, periods when the violent sea often prevents access by boat! For the non-sporty, choose April, May, June or September, October and November. In both cases, you will remember it! The arrival on the village is unforgettable, the abundant vegetation of the hill plunging into the waves. The impression of being at the end of the world will invade you. A rare and intoxicating feeling!
