Travel Guide Uguptupu

Uguptupu or isla Arena (Sand Island) is located 3 minutes away from its neighbor Wichubwala. It is in fact a private artificial island, without beach, built by a Guna family man, Juan García. It has the particularity of having been entirely rented, from 1974 to 1998, to a research team of the Smithsonian Institution, a North American scientific and biological organization. The base was used to establish meteorological and seabed surveys. The family who was among the precursors of hospitality in the archipelago had then converted the island into a hotel, before recently abandoning this tourist project
