Internationally renowned, the waves of Santa Catalina are ecstatic for the most experienced surfers. The best season is usually in February and March, but it is quite possible to work 5 or 6 meters waves outside this period. Several spots are accessible between Santa Catalina and Punta Brava, the most famous is La Punta, among the most beautiful waves of the country. It is better to be accompanied by a local, especially in Punta Brava when there are big waves, because the passage between the rocks to reach the peak is difficult and dangerous. If you do, you will surely have the chance to see Rolo, Cholito, Oli, Deivis or other Santa Catalina surfers in action. The joy of living is very present in this village, where locals and foreigners in love with the wave are mixed. The latter have mostly set up hotels, restaurants or agencies to be able to live here. But beyond surfing, Santa Catalina is also one of the access points to the Coiba National Park, an hour away by boat, a diving paradise. More and more divers are coming ashore to see big fish and the centers offer excursions at still reasonable prices. Those not tempted by surfing or diving can explore the area by sea kayak, paddle board, or horseback riding on the beach.
