Cap Skirring, 70 km from Ziguinchor, was born from the establishment of Club Med and was built from scratch for tourists around the blue trident and its yellow dot. No need to expect, therefore, a plunge into the heart of Senegalese culture. Senegalese people live there of course, although it is better to say that they gravitate around Cape Town. They come by bicycle to be night watchmen or, for a season, to play music in the evening in the hotels and lead the beautiful, nonchalant life of the toubabs. However, Cape Town remains a surprisingly pleasant place for a seaside resort, with very comfortable and affordable hotels, lively bars and nightclubs in the evenings, holiday atmosphere guaranteed! Cape Town's strong point is its postcard beaches with fine sand, coconut palms and crystal clear water. There are fewer street vendors there than in Saly, less solicitation on all sides, a more African village centre... while enjoying the same tourist comfort. The sweetness of life comes by itself on this immense beach populated by tourists and Senegalese. Cape Town is an excellent point of influence in Casamance for those who do not want to go through Ziguinchor. One can also go into Lower Casamance by pirogue or by car, to discover a more authentic region.
