Regional capital, it is the hub of the country on the road from Mbour to Tambacounda, in the direction of Eastern Senegal. By the road on the right, direction Sine-Saloum, one can reach Sokone, Missirah and Gambia to go to Casamance. Hot, dirty to the point that it is sometimes called "cradolack", Kaolack does not top the list of the most popular cities in Senegal. It is however the third by population which developed at the time when groundnut production was the flagship of the country's production. Of all this panache, what remains? Feathers. A groundnut production that economists are trying in vain to eradicate in favour of market gardening, from the docks on the Saloum River at the time when groundnuts were transported to Dakar by the river. A city of business rather than tourism, the hotels are more business-oriented. In Kaolack, you can't miss the big mosque on the right when you arrive by the road to Mbour and the big covered market in town on the right. Take a look at the Alliance franco-senegalese, built by the same architect and on the same type as the one in Ziguinchor, or the blue mosque, a wonderful architectural sketch, a royal gift from a ruined billionaire. If you have two hours to kill in the city, don't hesitate to take a horse-drawn carriage. You will have a beautiful panorama of the city without getting too tired. It is also possible to get a closer look at the peanut processing plants, those seccos you can see from the road, or the oil mills of Suneor, some 10 km away.
