Ten kilometers south of Palmarin, Djifer is a strip of land bordered by the ocean and the Saloum delta. It's impossible to get any further down this road. Unless you have an amphibious car! This pleasant, peaceful spot is an excellent starting point for excursions to the islands of Falia, Guissamor, Guior (a shellfish heap) and, of course, the Pointe de Sangomar, Niodior and Dionewar. This fishing village was an important economic base during the factory's heyday. A fish processing plant that provided a livelihood for a good number of local people, but is now closed. All that remains is millet cultivation and fishing. Nostalgia is omnipresent, and we miss the economic Djifer in this small village of around 3,000 inhabitants. Still, we can put this statement into perspective when we see the tons of fish brought in every day from the fishing trips, and the middlemen on the beach sorting the arrivals according to Dakar's needs. Trucks wait a few meters away, refrigerated, ready to transport the fish to Dakar in the best possible conditions, where it will be processed before being put on the local or international market. The beach is very dirty, with garbage and rotten fish... and we advise against swimming, but you can visit the village, which is more authentic.
