Salers - don't pronounce the final S - is the most visited town in the Cantal. One of France's most beautiful villages, this Cantal gem has preserved its character around its church, belfry and mansions. The town's streets are home to a large number of craftsmen and women, who are a pleasure to discover. The views from the terraces on the old ramparts are breathtaking. From the Col de Néronne, you can climb to the Pas de Peyrol to reach the summit of Puy Mary. Salers shares its name with a local breed of mahogany-colored cow, a cheese and a brand of gentian-based liqueur.
