This major tourist complex is located 4 km east of Puerto Plata. Several international hotel chains have established themselves here, and the fifteen or so hotels and resorts, all of excellent standing, total over 4,500 rooms and offer a wide range of activities, from deep-sea fishing to merengue lessons.Restaurants, bars, discos and casinos abound, and you'll be spoilt for choice. There's little authenticity here, just a vacation atmosphere. Playa Dorada's beautiful beach is protected by coral reefs. Each hotel has its own stretch of beach where you can enjoy all kinds of water sports.
