The village, built in 1976, is the dream of former Gulf and Western Inc. president Charles Bluhdorn. It is a perfect replica of a small 16th century Italian town. Entirely dedicated to the arts, it is jointly administered by a private Dominican foundation and an American association. Its plans were drawn up by the Dominican architect José Antonio Caro, and the Italian Roberto Copa supervised the work. The buildings and houses were built in the spirit of the time, with strict respect for the original style and materials
