Blat is the Occitan word for buckwheat, rye and barley. Blat was also Celtic for wolf. Situated between Puy Griou and Plomb du Cantal, the village lies at the heart of the ancient volcano, with magnificent views of the Cirque de Ferval and Bec de l'Aigle at all times of the year! At an altitude of 1,000 m, this is the highest village in the Cère valley, with a breathtaking view of Puy Griou - 1,694 m - a majestic dome of phonolite, the stone that sings. The hamlet of Les Gardes is well worth a visit, with its typical mountain architecture, renovated bread oven and mill, at the foot of the Plomb du Cantal.
