Saint-Cirgues-de-Jordanne was created in 1844 by its dismemberment from Saint-Julien-de-Jordanne. Its name is linked to the river which flows from the slopes of Puy Mary in the direction of Aurillac and to Saint Cyr, here modified into Cirgues, a martyr of the 4th century. The parish church bears his name in conjunction with that of Saint Juliette. Its Romanesque style bell tower (12th century), with four bells, is characteristic of the Haute-Auvergne. The nave and the chapels were modified in the 15th century. It has been listed as a historical monument since 1986. Native of the town, the rugby player Jean-Marie Bonal played at international level from 1968 to 1970 in the French team.
