Polminhac (population 1,700) lies on the N122 between Vic-sur-Cère and Aurillac. The small town developed as a street village at the foot of the escarpments of the Cère valley, on either side of the Ribe stream. Polminhac is dominated by the Château de Pesteils (14th-19th centuries), a superb medieval castle which, in addition to its natural surroundings, is one of the town's major attractions. A few kilometers to the south-east via the D57, another medieval castle, Château de Vixouze (13th-18th centuries), is well worth a visit. Both castles are listed historic monuments and can be visited most of the year.
