Nestling at the foot of the Vauclin mountain, named after the lord of Vauquelin, this small village came to life in the early 18th century. With the departure of the Amerindians, it became a favored spot for the first European settlers, who produced some of the best coffee here, before sugar cane took over. But the sugar crisis of the 19th century brought an end to a prosperous era. Today, Le Vauclin lives by its nets, its food crops and its water sports, much appreciated by tourists and sports enthusiasts alike. With its white seabed, immaculate beaches, numerous walks and magnificent panoramic views, particularly of the Baie des Mulets, this commune exudes a timeless joie de vivre. Le Vauclin is a charming fishing village, where life flows quietly to the rhythm of the gumboats returning from fishing in Miquelon. Time seems to have stood still in this small commune cradled by the Atlantic Ocean, even if recent developments on the waterfront have brought a touch of modernity to the landscape. Don't miss the fruit, vegetable and fish market, held in wooden halls on the seafront in the heart of the village. Take the opportunity to admire the statue of Louis-Joseph Landa, knight of the Legion of Honor and mayor of Le Vauclin.
