A neighbor of Le Lorrain, in 1837 it formed the commune of Grande-Anse with it. It became independent after 1889. After its central factory closed in the 1950s, Le Marigot started producing bananas. Facing the Atlantic Ocean, the town offers, like its close neighbors, two facets: on the one hand the sea (notably the bay of Fonds-d'Or) and on the other hand a generous nature conducive to the development of green tourism, dominated by several mornes, Bellevue (694 m), Les Croupières (250 m), Palmiste (527 m). One thing is sure: this “flooded marsh” will delight lovers of calm and a return to nature.
