The commune, named after Théodore Ducos (1801-1855), Napoleon III's Minister of Marine and Colonies, was formerly known as Trou-au-Chat. During the industrial era, it was the scene of violent political confrontations during the tragic elections of May 24, 1925: the Socialist general councillors, Charles Zizine and Louis des Etages, were shot dead by a gendarme in the middle of town. In just a few years, Ducos moved from an agricultural and craft-based economy to an industrial and commercial one, and is now considered a dynamic commune and a place to live and work for many workers from the center.
