Some say that Saül is like an island, lost in the middle of an ocean of vegetation. The sheer isolation of this commune, populated by around 150 souls, can make you dizzy just looking at it on a map. Once upon a time, when the myth of El Dorado was alive and well in French Guiana, Saül enjoyed wealth and intense activity, especially tourism and gold panning. Today, the village still seems timeless, to the delight of those who dare to visit. Hikers, entomologists and other enthusiasts will be delighted in the heart of this immense primary forest.
