An association promoting Bushinengé art, Libi Na Wan was founded in 1994 to support the culture of these descendants of African slaves who fled to the Amazon rainforest to escape colonial oppression. The association's premises house a fine collection of handicrafts. Tembé art - the famous interlacing of lines and coloured ribbons, as complex as they are harmonious, typical of the Saramaca, Djuka and Boni cultures - is represented in all its forms: sculptures on wood and calabashes, paintings and embroidery.
