A medieval town classified as a "Petite Cité de Caractère", Montsalvy was founded in the 11thcentury by the monk Gausbert. He established a sauveté bordered by four crosses, guaranteeing ecclesiastical immunity to those who took refuge there. Enter through the south and north porches to discover the château (now a retirement home following a donation by the owners) and its grounds, the Romanesque abbey church, the monks' refectory and the 14th-century chapter house (listed as a historic monument) containing the Treasure of Sacred Art of the Montsalvy canton. A wonderful stopover in the heart of the Châtaigneraie region.New: guided tour with PCC Sud Cantal application.
