We are here in the heart of the most important Amerindian community in French Guyana. Fighting to be integrated, but not assimilated, the Galibi or Kali'na obtained on December 24, 1988 that these two villages form together a commune, entirely administered by them. It is formed by detaching a part of the commune of Mana, in a space of classic implantation of the Kali'na villages, instituted for some years in land reserve intended for the Amerindians. A natural area of ecological, faunistic and floristic interest, it is protected by a prefectural decree. In December, the Kali'na Games are worth a visit.
