Pointe Noire's tropical coastline, with its engaging indolence, makes you want to stroll along its coastal road. The town owes its name to the volcanic rocks of its northern tip. The pretty, colorful old Creole huts reflect the traditional image of a large, peaceful seaside village. The Notre-Dame-du-Port church, restored in 1976, overlooks the sea. On the shopping front, local craft stalls offer wooden objects, hats and other souvenirs, complemented by a friendly little market. The seafront is pebbled. To find a sandy beach, head further south to Anse-Caraïbe.
