Baie-Mahault remains attached to its agricultural land, but it has long been able to rely on industry. It is the archipelago's major economic lung, thanks to the 300-hectare Jarry industrial, logistics and commercial zone, built entirely on the mangrove swamp, which generates 10,000 jobs (a third of the local industrial workforce). The town is also home to Guadeloupe's largest shopping mall.
