Located in the extreme north of Grande-Terre, this rural commune was attached to Port-Louis until 1737. The last refuge for the hunted Caribs, this arid land was the first to be exploited by colonists to grow cotton and sugar cane. What remains of the stone mills, scattered across the countryside, are a reminder of its sugar-making past. This area is not to be missed for the beauty of its limestone cliffs between Pointe de la Vigie and Porte d'Enfer. The color of the cliffs changes according to the position of the sun. An ever-changing panorama that feels like the end of the world.
