On the southern slopes of the Maurienne, at an altitude of 1,500 m but culminating at Mount Thabor at 3,178 m, Valmeinier has managed to preserve its character as a mountain village while opening up to tourism. This end of the world (the road is a dead end) is composed of a large number of hamlets to visit to discover authentic mountain farms, stone houses with lauze roofs. Valmeinier is a village resort, labeled as a Club and New Slides resort, and is linked to the Grand Domaine. Numerous summer hikes, especially to the high altitude lakes. Cycling can be done on the road in the heart of the largest cycling area in the world or on the mountain bike trails.
