We owe its origin, even if a human presence from the Gallo-Roman period is proven by archaeological excavations, to the princess Théodechilde. The daughter of Clovis is said to have witnessed an apparition of the Virgin Mary in the woods which, at the time, covered the region. For this fact, she had a chapel built which was transformed into a church in the 11th century with the name of Notre-Dame-des-Miracles, then erected into a basilica by the Pope in 1846 as a pilgrimage church. It is one of the most beautiful Romanesque buildings in Auvergne. The portal, with its mutilated tympanum, is particularly remarkable. Corbels representing the devil decorate the chevet.
