For more than a century and a half, Pralognan-la-Vanoise has been a renowned French mountain destination and the cradle of mountaineering as well as the first winter sports resort. The creation of the Compagnie des Guides de Pralognan-la-Vanoise in 1881 and the installation of the cable car linking the village to Mont-Bochor (2,023m), which was then the fastest machine in the world, are among the milestones in its history.
