Marcolès amply deserves the title of "Small city of character". A former priory, a stronghold at the time of the Hundred Years War, a "good town" in the 16th century, rich in trade on the road linking the Auvergne mountains to the South, Marcolès has inherited from its long history a heritage that is all the more superb because it has been very well renovated and developed. Marcolès has kept its "high" and "low" portals, as well as the tower house on the site of the original keep (1203). In the summer, craftsmen's shops add to the charm of this picturesque village. In July, the Nuits de Marcolès (Marcolès Nights) take you into the world of storytelling.
