Moûtiers is located in the lower part of the Isère valley, on the foothills of the Vanoise and Beaufortain massif to which it gives access. It is an obligatory passage to get to the ski resorts, especially to the 3 Valleys, but it is also a town that deserves a stop to discover some of its treasures. One of the first inhabitants of the place put down one day his axe-spatula : he lived then in the middle bronze age... The object found by the archaeologists of the modern times attests to an occupation which goes back to a long time. It is to say that Moûtiers has a rich and long history to tell. Because much later, during the Antiquity, it is the Ceutrons people who occupied these lands. Then the Romans imposed themselves, then again different kings and lords during the wars and conflicts of the medieval and revolutionary periods... The vestiges of this past tell more to the most curious visitors and the guided tours will be perfect to not miss anything. Three of its monuments are listed in the inventory of historical monuments, notably the Saint-Pierre cathedral and the Saint-Pierre bridge. In modern times, between industry and white gold propelled by Olympism, we were heading towards the Moûtiers of today, tourist and sports. For bicycle lovers, a cycle track links Moûtiers to the Aigueblanche dam. Another one follows the old route of the RN 90 in the gorges of Ponserand.
