Located in the beautiful Haute-Tarentaise region of Savoie, Montvalezan is a charming, picturesque commune that is home to the famous ski resort of La Rosière and 44 authentic hamlets. With a stable population of 705 permanent residents, life is peaceful and pleasant for the inhabitants of this family resort. The resort of La Rosière offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains and the Espace San Bernardo, a vast Franco-Italian ski area with over 160 kilometers of trails. The area has considerable tourist capacity, with over 13,000 beds available, mainly in the resort of La Rosière-Espace San Bernardo, offering visitors a pleasant stay. The heart of Montvalezan lies around its town hall, located in the center of the historic village, which was once the most lively in the region. This town hall houses a parish complex consisting of a tower, a presbytery and the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, a listed historic monument. The tower, built in 1674 as an annex of the Hospice du Petit-Saint-Bernard, is open to visitors, as is the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church. Montvalezan has 14 chapels that bear witness to a rich local religious heritage and offer a glimpse into the history and culture of this region. These chapels were built by the ancestors of the inhabitants to express their deep faith and to share their sufferings and hopes.
