Sainte-Foy took on different names but the name "argentiera" was often used, recalling the nearby silver lead mines. Very diversified activities existed since the Ancien Régime: coal mines, porcelain factories, tile and brick factories, weaving workshops... Coal mining favoured the supply of energy to the factories that were to spring up in the Monts du Lyonnais. The Lyon-Montbrison railway line was decreed to be in the public interest in June 1868. A branch line leads to the Grande Tuilerie du Rhône. Since 1989, the Tourist Train of the Monts du Lyonnais leaving from l'Arbresle runs on this line.
