If the name Belleville was already displayed among the communes of the Rhône, that of Belleville-en-Beaujolais results from the merger, carried out in 2019, of the communes of Belleville and Saint-Jean-d'Ardières. On the Belleville side, the abbey church of Notre-Dame-de-Miséricorde is the only vestige of the abbey around which the town was founded.
