Belonging to the community of communes of the Garon Valley, Montagny is divided between the Mornantais plateau and the slopes of the Garon river where there is a Montagny-le-Bas. In the old historical town, which was once the stronghold of one of the richest families in the kingdom (in the 13th century, it was the first barony of the Lyonnais), the visitor discovers superb views opening up from Pilat to the Alps. Here, the environment is remarkable, in particular the Sensitive Natural Area of the Prairies and moors of Montagny where one can observe rare species of birds, amphibians, insects and plants to be preserved.
