A pretty and peaceful village, where you can visit the Chappe tower, named after its inventor, Claude Chappe, who installed a new means of rapid long-distance communication in France: the telegraph. In 1845, 535 stations were operational. The one in Marcy-sur-Anse was the 55th. The Paris-Lyon line had 58 stations. Among the six relays installed in the Beaujolais, it is the only one to have been restored to its original state. It is one of the last five towers of Chappe still visible in France. Visits are provided by the association Côté Tour (site: www.cotetour.fr) which also organizes a hike to discover the area.
