Indeed, this street of the rue de la Ré is part of the city's institutions, even though it is still known as the American Bar that it has worn for a long time. An address that its owner, Franck Delafon, wanted to raise in order to take it to a certain idea of luxury, in a cosy decor that does not work completely to our taste. Moreover, it is a set that seems to us «surjoué», when elegance should naturally prevail. The service is knowledgeable about its subject. For the rest, Smart finds more earn on the map, with soaring prices, that a real inspiration. A benedictine egg façon at 13,50 €, smoked organic salmon, lemon cream and Poilâne bread at 19 €… For the time being, one would think more about the promenade of the English than rue de la Ré. The Noix nuts at the plancha, squash risotto display at € 26,50, while the meat rises with a true beef net, the ceps juice for 36 €. Desserts still increase the addition of 8 €, dang! In short, an address that takes us too much for Americans (see its history)…

Read moreFrench people are complainers, pretentious, unfaithful, inconstant… As many clichés, sometimes motivated, which would say that Café Français does not always ensure a smiling service, does not always offer an excellent value for money and a cuisine that does not always meet our required criterion. And yet, Café Français certainly deserves more praises than critics. First, there is the campsite. Located on the quiet Place Poncet, within walking distance from Bellecour and every Lyon sites, Café Français is part of the must-gp for tourists and Lyon residents. The large terrace is a bargain, especially as it is completed by a veranda heated in winter and air conditioned in summer. The indoor rooms are beautiful and the cellar is a real paradise for wine lovers, especially from the region with beautiful bottles and grand crus, or spirits. Menu of tapas to nibble with a glass of good wine. As for the cuisine, the salads are always the stars on the summer menu, including a Salade du Sud-Ouest with homemade foie gras and marinated duck breasts. Of course, the house offers its Café Français burger and its Louchebem burger. Traditional pike quenelles, velvet crab cream, the casseroles of mussels or marinated salmon tartare. Cheeses from Mère Richard, caramel cream, coffee tiramisu, pancakes and waffles to finish in delicacies. In the end, a good address in the heart of Lyon.

Market day or not, you can be at the Industry at any time of the day to enjoy the huge terrace (which is not set up on market days) giving a dolce vita look to this beautiful area, once industrious, which also saw the advent of cinema. If the weather doesn't allow you to sit outside, you can find a well-fitted room where you can feel comfortable, for two people, in a corner, and among friends to share a bench seat. Friendly welcome, efficient service, the industry works daily to receive us well and you quickly become familiar with the place, observing the posters and other objects related to the former industries of the neighbourhood (the factories Calor and then Seb were nearby). When it comes to the cuisine, the dishes are generous and the simple and efficient menu keeps its promises, respecting the flavours of the products prepared. On the menu: A scallop terrine with muscadet, a salmon tartare or a traditional cervelle de canut "comme au mâchon". Salads in two sizes for meal. Coming up next, a home-seasoned tartare cut with a knife, a pièce du boucher, a hot Beaujolais pistachio sausage or a local traditional andouillette with mustard sauce. It's so rare that it deserves to be mentioned, the desserts are homemade, like these seasonal pies or chocolate chips. Not "bright", but an industry that manufactures neighbourhood life and good weather.

If one could hope better for this wonderful place after a resounding start, say that today it offers a price-price ratio that makes us hesitate (despite a drop in tariffs this year, still an effort! Some can do better for cheaper, certainly in less prestigious premises…). Nevertheless, the terrace and the garden of this bourgeois house at the beginning of the th century offer a splendid setting at our meal, which the residence of Marguerite Lumière (the wife of Auguste Lumière) receives us in a sumptuous decor to savour a cuisine of fine tradition prepared by Chef Francesco Santin is fun to revisit the tradition of such a bourgeois cuisine. This summer: Scandinave-marinated salmon, soup of melon servie with ice-cream, a plancha bar net, a pan-fried beef fillet, or a peanut baked veal nut. A romantic, romantic address that lends itself to dinner dinners as well as business meals, family meals and other receptions thanks to five privatisables lounges. One of the few (the only ones) addresses of "prestige" in this neighbourhood, the true village, yet easy of Monplaisir.

The hotel's lovely guest house, which makes every effort to make our meal a special moment, even at noon. In slate, seasonal lunches and a map that mixes the pleasures of both here and elsewhere: Successful cod acras or a medallion of pan-fried foie gras on caramel apple. Beautiful fish, including a cod back to both citrus fruits or mullet fillets with ginger, as well as roasted lamb chops to the goat and coriander a carry of Indian chicken for flavours.
