A few minutes from the Metropolis, Chaponost, a dynamic town, has retained its character as a rural village and areas of preserved nature. Like many communes in the Lyonnais, Chaponost's farmers turned to strawberry growing, fruit growing, mixed farming and livestock breeding in the early 20th century. Nowadays, there are still witnesses of the past: the Roman aqueduct of the Gier, the medieval gate of the castle, the church of 1891, the communal wash-house of 1881, the crosses of the paths, the lodges of the fields, small rudimentary huts being used to shelter, to take the meal and to store the tools. Hiking trails.
