South of Villefranche-sur-Saône, an important stage on the Roman road leading from Lyon to Mâcon, this fortified town, of which only the remains of the walls remain, is strategically located at the confluence of the Saône and Azergues rivers. The 13th-century Château des Tours evokes the tumultuous past of the town and the region. A signposted circuit - Anse through the ages - in the surrounding streets allows you to discover other vestiges. Anse, a flowery town, natural gateway to the Beaujolais and the Pierres Dorées, is home to the magnificent Colombier lake, a particularly well-equipped leisure centre, and a small tourist railway.
