Aigueperse, a village in the Haut-Beaujolais region, bordering the Saône-et-Loire department, which means "place where the waters flow", was created in 1100 when the lord Archambaud le Blanc decided to found an Hôtel-Dieu which was transformed into a collegiate church in the 13th century and was run by a chapter of canons. The beautiful Cluniac-style bell tower, thick walls with fine loopholes offering beautiful green landscapes and panoramas in all directions. Hiking from Aigueperse is the best way to enjoy it. For the hardy and experienced hiker, a 21 km circuit goes around the village with beautiful views.
