Located in the Ondaine valley, at the gates of the Loire Gorges, the municipality of Unieux was created in 1794. It was long administered by its neighbour Firminy, and it only fell in 1830. Today, the town of 8 339 Unieutaires, the inhabitants of Unieux, has a magnificent voluntary nature reserve of 330 ha and retains traces of its industrial past linked to fenderie.
