A village on the banks of the Rhône whose origins go back to the Celts. Originally, Saint-Pierre-de-Bœuf was called Ager Bocius and Boscum in Celtic means wood before being called Saint-Pierre-de-Beus (beus in local patois means wood) and finally Saint-Pierre-de-Bœuf in the 17th century following a transcription error! Moreover, the inhabitants are called Pétribociens. If the village was marked by the textile industry, it is the Rhone that determines the life of the village and its inhabitants who were essentially bargemen. Today, the village has a leisure centre with an artificial river for white water sports.
