The gateway to the Pilat Regional Nature Park, on a territory culminating at an altitude of nearly 1,000 m, Saint-Paul-en-Jarez is an ancient fortified village with a circular configuration first mentioned in 1120. The town has an interesting built heritage: the well with a 17th century flake dome and the balance pump in particular. Saint-Paul-en-Jarez was marked by industrialization in the 19th century. Today, this village located between the countryside and the urbanized valley with a very dynamic life continues to grow. With more than 4,000 inhabitants, this rural village has just been granted town status.
