The name of this village near Aurillac sounds so Auvergne! One could even say Celtic, since the rock of Giou was occupied from that time. Perhaps it is necessary to go back a little further in time since it is said that Jupiter was worshipped here. Some remains of the old castle are still visible near the church. It belonged to Pierre de Giou, general of the galleys at the side of King Charles X in Marseille and Arles. Lévy de Giou was the squire of Catherine de Bourbon, sister of Henri IV, who knew how to count on this loyal ally, who defeated the Duke of Joyeuse in Montauban. The church of Saint-Bonnet, dating from the 15th century, is worth visiting.
