It's an extremely depopulated village, with fewer than 100 inhabitants. The word fridefont, which means "cold spring" in Occitan, is associated with that of the town of Chaudes-Aigues, which means "hot waters". The Grandval reservoir is located on the territory, 5 km north of the village on the D40. Covering an area of over 1,100 hectares, the reservoir is ideal for a wide range of leisure activities. Commissioned in 1959, the Grandval dam is a multiple-arch construction supported by buttresses. At a height of 78 metres above river level, the crest is 376 metres long.
