Noirétable, a town of 1,800 inhabitants in the heart of the Forez Mountains is an obligatory point of passage between the Rhône-Alpes and Auvergne regions. It is a welcoming commune which is developing and gradually becoming the driving force of the Forez Mountains. It is also a tourist site with its leisure base on the lake of La Roche, the Hermitage Notre-Dame, its forests and its hiking trails, undeniable assets. The commune is a member of the "communauté de communes des contagnes du Haut-Forez" and also a member of the "pays du Forez". It has been part of the Livradois Forez Regional Natural Park since 2011.
