The Latin word lupus means "wolf". No doubt the original name of this small village inhabited by barely 300 inhabitants which enjoys a beautiful view of the Alps, the Isère plain and the wooded hills of Forez. A village on a plateau, integrated into the Pilat Regional Nature Park, it faces both the mountains and the valley. The castle of Lupé, a fortified castle built in the early thirteenth century and reworked during the Renaissance, controlled and defended access to the plateau of Pilat. Today, it still dominates the entire Rhone valley. Private property, it is not visited. Some hikes to do in the surroundings.
