Away from the road, the village of Chambles (1,000 inhabitants) has a feudal look, dominated by an 18 m high tower, with free access. From the top, a striking panorama awaits you. Immediately below, the rounded tiles of the Romanesque church of Saint-Pierre (14th century) turn its chevet towards the precipice. Everything is quiet; time passes slowly on this granite promontory. At the end of August, producers, artists and acrobats gather for the Chamblouserie. A few kilometers north of the village, you can see the castle of Essalois, which dominates the Loire, and the dam of Grangent, built in 1957.
