Weaving is an activity in Bussières since the Middle Ages, where hemp and flax were used. But it was only after the first revolts of the canuts (1831 and 1834) that les began to move production to the countryside. Bussières then had a phenomenal development. This small town was chosen both because of its proximity to Lyon but also from its ancestral know-how. At the turn of the century, the work changes, especially due to the arrival of electricity and improved mechanization of the loom. The result of this modernisation is a reduction in jobs leading to a major recession in the s. From that date, most weavers switch to other professions, including the metallurgy in Balbigny or Feurs. However, there are still a dozen businesses today and at least as many independent workshops.
