Saint-Savin (4,000 inhabitants) is an old fortified town whose ramparts have been destroyed over the centuries. Today it can be crossed quite quickly. To the south-east, Damptézieu, a former parish that has been attached to the commune since the French Revolution, is home to a beautiful building whose initial construction dates back to the 12th century. Fief of the powerful Alleman family for three centuries, the castle of Damptézieu is the birthplace of Hélène Alleman, the mother of the Chevalier Bayard. Its well-preserved circular keep was once linked to three corner towers. It cannot be visited but it is easily visible from the main street.
