Overlooking the Grésivaudan valley, the Petites Roches plateau (communes of Saint-Hilaire, Saint-Bernard and Saint-Pancrasse) is one of the French, and even worldwide, paradises for hang gliding and paragliding. The major annual event is the Coupe Icare, which lasts 4 days and is held around mid-September. This international free flight event attracts nearly 75,000 spectators each year (www.coupe-icare.org). One can take off from the plateau which, at an altitude of 1,000 meters, overlooks the valley and Grenoble located more than 700 meters below. It can be reached by road, since the funicular is no longer in service
