The history of Saint-Chef (3,600 inhabitants) is intertwined with that of its abbey, founded in the 6th century, which was one of the most famous abbeys in the Dauphiné until the Revolution. Its church has been classified as a historical monument with its three sets of frescoes from the 12th century. This past has bequeathed a unique living environment which is reflected in the urban fabric, the type of housing and the original architecture of the village. While walking through the historical circuit and its 4 districts, you will discover a number of manors, fortified houses or beautiful houses typical of the Dauphiné. The writer Frédéric Dard (1921-2000) is buried in the town's cemetery. To see also : the abbey and the house of the heritage.
