It became Bourbonnaise when, in 1344, Jean II de Vichy exchanged it with Pierre I de Bourbon. In 1605, Henri IV created the Superintendance Générale des Bains et Fontaines Minérales de France, which was to exploit the waters of Vichy. Napoleon III, who initiated the construction of the chalets, stayed here. In the early 19th century, Vichy began manufacturing its namesake fabric and a pastille with digestive properties. From 1940 to 1944, Vichy became the capital of France, and the hotels were transformed into ministries. Renowned for its gentle way of life, the town boasts a wide range of sports facilities and high-quality cultural events.
