On the edge of the forest, on the heights (448 m), here is a charming little village which took the name of Sallenôves, in the 18th century, in homage to the lords of Sallenove - whose castle was located on the commune of Marlioz (val des Usses) opposite the village. They helped to rebuild the village, which was almost destroyed by a fire: it was then called Cheptonnex and served as a stopover for travellers, merchants and pilgrims. Today it belongs to the community of communes Fier et Usses. You can visit the former Cistercian abbey of Bonlieu, transformed into a farm, the old village and the castle, thanks to the dynamic association Les Amis de Sallenôves, which promotes and shares the history of its heritage. Also to be discovered, the surprising Museum of Matches!
